Helping power a remote island
The island of Sebira is located north of Jakarta in the Java Sea and home to many families. As a responsible operator in the region, CNOOC International stepped up and provided support much needed support in the form of solar power.
Sebira residents were using diesel-fueled generators for their electricity needs, which was only provided from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning. Dependent on fuel delivery and adequate weather, basic daily tasks – such as using computers at schools and residents attending their place of worship – were often disrupted. To support this community, CNOOC International installed solar power devices for public facilities on the island and a lightning rod at the schools to protect the equipment.
