This dynamic role will be instrumental in providing planning and execution support for geological operations in CNOOC Petroleum North America’s (CPNA) Long Lake and Kinosis assets. The candidate will responsible for providing geophysical support for Brownfield and Greenfield development programs and reservoir and production management support. The candidate will be required to collaborate with various functions within the subsurface and development teams.

Your Background

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • 5-15 years of subsurface interpretation experience.
  • Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Geophysics or related Geoscience discipline;
  • Professional designation with APEGA.
  • Experience working multidisciplinary, collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
  • Strong knowledge of clastic depositional environments.
  • Understanding of rock physics.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the upstream Oilsands business model.
  • Operational, SAGD or other thermal process experience is desirable.
  • Experience with seismic acquisition and processing are assets.
  • Understanding of reservoir and production engineering would be an asset.

Your Role with Our Team

  • The Geophysicist will be responsible for the following areas:
  • Geoscience interpretation using integrated data sets for oilsands development projects resulting in cohesive subsurface depositional models and reservoir predictability.
  • Interpretation of subsurface stratigraphy, structure, isopach and reservoir quality attributes to accurately characterize and high-grade potential areas of interest for near term development.
  • Working effectively within an integrated team with project geologists, engineers and project managers in providing a holistic evaluation and understanding of project potential.
  • Planning and execution of drilling SAGD well pairs for near-term capital projects and support brownfield opportunities.
  • Support of several corporate processes with technical evaluations (reserves, budget, strategic planning).
  • Working closely with geoscientists in the reservoir optimization team ensuring collaborative cross-divisional evaluations and support seismic acquisition projects.
  • Assist teams with 3D and 4D seismic acquisition and processing programs.
  • Communicate the results of your evaluations in professional presentations to management and provide technical documentation.

The Role:

The Process Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Delivery Process Lead, provides engineering support and expertise in Process Engineering as part of the Engineering Delivery Team. Based full time in Aberdeen, this role involves delivering high-quality support across various Process Engineering challenges and serving as the Engineering Delivery Team’s representative for Process-related matters across the organisation.

You will:

Be responsible for providing process engineering input to the Management of Change (MOC) process, managing the process scope for minor change projects and conducting Assess/Select studies as part of the MOC framework. The role involves contributing to the Stage Gate process by presenting study outcomes to Asset Management and leading larger-scale process assessments, including directing junior engineers. 

Key duties include acting as the responsible engineer for HAZOP, HAZAN, and LOPA assessments, developing Scopes of Work for third-party contractors and serving as the client focal point for contractor-led studies. 

The Process Engineer also provides operational support for plant upsets, identifies and proposes process optimisation opportunities, supports Engineering Changes and Operational Risk Assessments in collaboration with HSE&A and Operations teams. 

Additionally, the role involves providing process engineering input for major Capex projects, conducting offshore surveys during the Assess/Select phase, supporting project start-up and commissioning, and acting as a delegate Lead Process Engineer. The role also ensures process plans align with Asset priorities and collaborates with teams to achieve long-term objectives and implement corporate strategies.

Who are we looking for?

You will have broad engineering experience, including hands-on field operations and collaboration with engineering disciplines during project development. You will be knowledgeable about performance standards and ensuring asset compliance with verification schemes. Having experience working with multiple engineering disciplines and third-party contractors is essential. You’ll demonstrate strong initiative, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to work independently.

Your Role with Our Team

Reservoir Surveillance & Optimization: Develop SAGD reservoir operating strategy for new and legacy wells, including technical recommendations and support of economic evaluations of workovers and improvement projects. Monitor and

analyze production data, performance, and other reservoir data to maximize value, optimize performance while ensuring compliance.   • Coordinate monthly SAP data transfer to HQ, including identifying and preparing elimination entries that enable both SAP systems to consolidate properly.

Your Role with Our Team

Brownfield and/or Sustaining Pad Development

  • Self-perform detailed geological evaluations to interpret subsurface stratigraphy, structure, isopach, deposition and reservoir quality attributes to accurately characterize and high-grade potential areas of interest for near-term or medium-term development.
  • Ensure accurate geological inputs for optimal development planning and operational results
  • Work as an integrated team with project geophysicist, engineers, and project managers in providing a holistic evaluation and project potential
  • Communications to senior leadership
  • Planning and execution of drilling SAGD well pairs and sidetracks for near-term and/or medium-term capital project commitments.
  • Brownfield / Sustaining Pad Planning:
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities, determining, and optimizing subsurface well-pair trajectory and recoverable volumes recommendations
  • Responsible for presenting to expert review panel to provide subsurface geological justification for location and trajectory selection alignment in support of project sanction approval
  • Brownfield / Sustaining Pad Execution:
  • Coordinate and supervise subsurface drilling operations (including office and field staff associated with geological activity)
  • Responsible for operational decisions impacting well placement and drilling mitigations with significant business impacts (production, cost, & safety implications).

Reservoir and Production Management

  • Work closely with Geophysicists and Engineers to optimize bitumen recovery by analyzing steam chamber development and provide suggestions for well optimization;
  • Accountable to be production geologist for currently producing well pads and responsible for input into reservoir strategy changes or production issues;
  • Accountable to be production geologist responsible for startup support and troubleshooting of new well pads.
  • Support several corporate processes with technical evaluations, including annual budget and strategic plans as well as Reserves and Contingent Resource evaluations.
  • Responsible for geological support for Water Source and Disposal systems

Continuous Improvement/Knowledge Sharing

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and sharing best practices within geological team for analysis, interpretation, and execution of new wells for short- and long-term development including tech conferences
  • Responsible for bringing forward innovative and value-added opportunities to maximize resource capture within multidisciplinary team for evaluation and implementation

Technical Assurance

  • As a senior subject matter expert, participate actively in the Department technical assurance process. Identify, communicate, and document of technical workflows.
  • Consistently apply workflows in reservoir characterization in support of current and future projects (including core analysis and testing).
  • Review recommendations from the Geoscience technical team with respect to appropriate resource and reserve estimate methodologies and assumptions for all assets in all stages of development.

This dynamic role will be instrumental in supporting CNOOC’s groundwater monitoring, water supply and disposal activities at present and future Oil Sands projects. The Hydrogeologist in the Oil Sands business unit is responsible for developing and executing a water supply and disposal strategy for each of the CNOOC Oil Sands assets. The Hydrogeologist also supports the Long Lake site operations, interacts with the engineering design and environmental affair teams, and is the point of contact with regulatory agencies for groundwater monitoring and reporting, and for reviews of upcoming water regulations.

Your Background

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Minimum 10 years of hydrogeologic work experience.

  • Strong knowledge of directives and regulation in Alberta relating to groundwater resources and contamination applications.

  • Reservoir Surveillance & Optimization: Develop SAGD reservoir operating strategy for new and legacy wells, including technical recommendations and support of economic evaluations of workovers and improvement projects. Your Background

  • BSc., M. Sc., or Ph.D. in Geophysics or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of related geophysical experience. Previous South America, Passive Margin or International experience in a variety of structural and stratigraphic play types, particular focus on deep water exploration, is very much preferred;
  • Comprehensive skills in integrating diverse geological and geophysical data (e.g., well, log analysis, seismic, structural geology, stratigraphy, biostratigraphy, geochemical analysis, potential fields, etc.), with generalist skills in seismic mapping including lead and prospect generation,
  • Expertise in Rock Physics, including seismic attribute analysis, seismic processing, AVO, etc.;
  • The capability to create basin-scale and prospect-scale assessments, and to make technically and economically valid recommendations;
  • Ability to deliver evaluations and recommendations under time constraints, from scoping (hours/days) to detailed analyses (weeks/months);
  • Proficient using Petrel, Hampson Russell, RokDoc, PaleoScan, GeoX etc.

Your Role with Our Team

  • Independently map and interpret 2D and 3D seismic data from regional to prospect scale;
  • Analyze, edit and tie wells to 2D and 3D seismic;
  • Complete Rock Physics and AVO analysis to evaluate reservoir fluids and reservoir quality;
  • Model seismic response with wells and generate seismic attributes to address reservoir and charge risks; Build seismic velocity models to convert time horizons to depth using seismic and well data
  • Identify and analyze concepts & leads through integration of all available geological and geophysical data; Assess prospect merits by estimating probabilistic hydrocarbon resource and evaluating risk of source, charge, reservoir, trap, seal, and hydrocarbon preservation;
  • Work closely with an integrated team of geoscientists to mature leads & concept to drillable prospects – design work and execution programs for prospect drill readiness;
  • Recommend acquisition and/or purchase of geophysical data, including 2D and 3D seismic and potential fields data for regional assessment and prospect maturation;
  • Work with contractors and CNOOC specialists to design, contract and execute geophysical acquisition programs and processing;
  • Potential to act as a leader of small groups of technical personnel, or manage specific projects & evaluations if required;
  • Present prospects to CNOOC’s Peer Review Team, Management and Partners with clear recommendations to acquire, drop, farm out, or test the prospect. These presentations often require International travel at short notice; Participation in Peer Reviews as required for prospects and block acquisition;
